Whitmore signs four-year contract with JFF
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Senior National Football team Head Coach Theodore “Tappa” Whitmore today signed a four-year contract with the Jamaica Football Federation ending a tiff between the parties.
Last month reports surfaced that Whitmore had tendered his resignation following discussions with the football entity over a reportedly low salary package.
When German Winfried Schaefer left Jamaica it was said that he was earning US$45,000 a month, which is equivalent to $5.6 million. Whitmore was said to have been offered approximately US$3,000 a month, though his salary on his previous stint was much more than that.
It was withdrawn almost a week later after the Ministry of Sport intervened and following a meeting with both parties, a new contract was offered to the head coach with the expectation that all issues considered would be settled.
It was not disclosed what salary package would be offered to the head coach with the new contract.
However, in a statement today, the JFF said that both parties are satisfied with the terms and conditions of the contract and now look forward to planning and executing on preparation for the senior team’s engagement in upcoming games and tournaments.
