A guard of honour is mounted for the late sports administrator Patrick “Pat” Anderson, as his body leaves the Kendal Conference Centre in Manchester yesterday, where a Service of Thanksgiving was held. The guard of honour comprised mainly sports administrators and athletes whose lives Anderson touched during his long contribution to sport. The pall bearers are led by sons Robert (left) and Richard. Anderson died recently, aged 84. He served as President of the Jamaica Football Federation and the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association. As a sportsman, he was best known as a goalkeeper for Boys’ Town Football Club, and earned the nickname ‘Dust’ based upon the many times that he dived for ball s while dust flew as he claimed the round object. Anderson is also known for mentoring countless athletes, among them Deon Hemmings (McCatty), the first Jamaican woman to win an Olympic gold medal, that feat being achieved during the Atlanta Games in 1995 when she won the women’s 400 metres hurdles. His remains will be cremated.
