Mama’s cooking a di greatest
Sasco’s simmers with stew
MAMA’S cooking has always been the yardstick of many Jamaican households, and for entertainers, it is no different. Even though his mother — Nellie Campbell — died in 2005, dancehall artiste Jeffrey “Agent Sasco” Campbell still remembers his favourite meal she used prepared.
“Brown stewed chicken, rice and peas with ripe plantain. That’s my favourite meal that she enjoyed preparing,” he shared.
Agent Sasco recently released Mama Prayed, featuring Glacia Robinson. The song was produced by Diamond Studios.
“My mother used to pray for us a lot. It was a significant part of my reality growing up and one of the many things that I treasure about her, and the mother that she was,” he recalled.
Miss Ivy’s secret recipe
Bounty Killer said he shared a close bond with mom, Ivy “Miss Ivy” Williams, who passed away six years ago.
“We were very close,” said Killer whose given name is Rodney Price.
He spoke about his favourite meal his mother enjoyed preparing for him.
“My mom prepared several favourite meals for me, but my favourite of them all is brown stewed chicken with ackee and vegetable on the side, rice and peas and sour sop juice,” he told Jamaica Observer.
“She had a secret recipe. Her cooking was the greatest. A happy Mothers’ Day to all the mothers across Jamaica and to my mother wherever she may be with the Lord,” he added.
Conch is it for Richie
Singer Richie Stephens says his mom, Carmen ‘Mama Carmen’ Farkinson’s, cooking has been a hit with him since his childhood days.
“My favorite meal is stewed conch with rice and peas. What made it special is that she prepared it like stew peas but without the meat. I don’t eat meat and she used the conch. It is most delicious when she prepared it with coconut milk,” said Stephens.
He continued: “We always watched her preparing the meal and she did it timely. I’ve loved that meal since I was a child till now.”
Tifa keeps it in the family
She comes from a family of chefs and dancehall artiste Tifa was always surrounded by food.
“Anyone who knows my mom, knows that she is one hell of a cook. I don’t have a favourite dish, so some of the dishes I love from her are fried snapper in coconut milk with okra, her lasagna, curried lobster, creamy zucchini, stuffed chicken breast and I could go on. As to how she prepares it, that’s a secret,” said Tifa
Mutton! Shenseea’s must have
For dancehall singjay Shenseea, her favourite meal from mom Cissilyn Williams put her in a state of relaxation.
“My favourite meal from my mom is curry goat with white rice. I never watched her prepare it, because majority of the time that I asked her to prepare it, I’m either working real hard whether at the studio or doing house work, or I just returned to the island. That meal is like a relaxation meal, if you know what I mean,” said Shenseea.
