Scholastic Team Chess Tournament gets going next month
Registration is now underway for the 19th Annual Scholastic Team Chess Tournament taking place on June 2 and 3 at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium at the University of Technology, Jamaica.
The two-day event brings together the nation’s best young players to determine the top Under-8, Primary/Prep and Junior High school-based chess teams.
Based on the trend established in recent years, over 200 primary and secondary school students are anticipated to vie for the 2018 trophies.
No doubt, all eyes will be on the defending champions St Catherine High, St Andrew’s Prep and Hillel Academy.
This year participating schools are being allowed a maximum of 10 teams (three players and one reserve per team) in each category. Schools are required to be members of the Jamaica Chess Federation (JCF), or to ensure that each student on their team has at least a six-month membership with JCF.
