Peggy’s Vision breaks the deadlock
Following eight consistent performances over varying distances ranging from 1,100 metres to 1,600 metres in which she was always in the money, Peggy’s Vision finally broke the deadlock to be unsaddled in the winners’ enclosure for the first time, much to the delight of her conditioner Michael Marlowe.
A three-year-old bay filly by Fearless Vision out of the imported Starjinsky mare Toronto Star, Peggy’s Vision shed the maiden tag going 1,400 metres in a time of 1:28.3 following a well-calculated ride from jockey Shane Ellis.
Peggy’s Vision gobbled up the front-runners in deep stretch to come away for the maiden victory by 2 ¾ lengths. It was the filly’s ninth attempt at releasing the maiden tag and the third time over the distance, in which she has never finished less than third.
Ellis brought the filly from far back to gain the ascendancy inside the final 200 metres in the maiden special weight contest for native-bred three-year-old fillies, in which a field of 14 ran.
“It is always beautiful after a win,” trainer Marlowe said, and continued, “Shane (Ellis) rode a masterful race today.”
Peggy’s Vision is owned by Valerie Marlowe and was bred at Orange Valley Estates Ltd. Trainer Marlowe has prospects for the filly to develop into one that will get a distance of ground, “as she will get much better at the longer distances as she matures. At present she is a middle-distance horse, but as she gets older she will go a little longer as she develops. It was a nice win; now let us hope this can continue.”
