The dead men have been identified as Fabian Edwards of a Kingston 20 address and Christopher Pengelley of Waterford, St Catherine.
The names were released a short while ago in a release from the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU).
The police said they are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the crash that occurred about 3:30 pm. It is said that a truck laden with sand was descending the steep Melrose bypass towards Porus when it got out of control.
It is reported that Edwards was driving along the mentioned roadway along with Pengelley as passenger.
On reaching a section of the roadway, it is alleged that the driver of the truck, travelling in the opposite direction, lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn and collided with Edwards’ vehicle and two others.
Edwards, Pengelly and seven passengers of the other vehicles were taken to hospital where Edwards and Pengelly were pronounced dead and the others admitted.
