Seven people in shelters as heavy rains persist — ODPEM
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has reported that seven people are currently in two shelters which have been opened in Little London and Mylersfield in Westmoreland, to accommodate persons impacted by the heavy rains.
Heavy rainfall, which began on Sunday evening, has resulted in flooding and landslides on a number of roadways particularly in St Andrew and Western Jamaica.
The National Works Agency (NWA) said the inclement weather has stymied its clean-up efforts in St Andrew, St Thomas, St Elizabeth, Hanover, Trelawny and Westmoreland.
