Cruz control at Hot Rides: Link Up
Anthony Cruz was in the winners’ circle at car show Hot Rides: Link Up held on Dunrobin Road in St Andrew last Saturday.
The reggae singer’s 2014 Audi A5 took home the prize for Deepest Dished Rims, one of the three prizes up for grabs for the evening. He said he was wasn’t there to enter the competition.
“The organiser asked me if mi coulda go inna it (the competition) an’ mi sey well: ‘Why not? Is a fun ting’. This is my first time really doing anything like that, but it’s very interesting. Is a good likkle vibes and mi car win di first trophy,” Cruz told Auto magazine.
Cruz’s black Audi A5’s matched 20-inch wheels impressed the judges enough for him to lift the trophy.
“To tell you di truth, when mi buy dah car yah, mi brethren just pick out the rims dem fi mi a Miami. So the car came down with the rims from Miami. Mi nuh really see nuh rims like dat a Jamaica,” he said.
Joining Cruz in the winners’ enclosure were Kishawn Bell and Shane Bailey. They won Lowest Ride and Best Engine Bay, respectively.
Bell’s 2006 Toyota Camry was also pasted to the ground, leaving precious little space between his front bumper and tarmac.
“It feels great to win the trophy because I’m a student and it was built on a budget,” he said.
Bell, part of Dapper Clique crew, said despite the car’s lack of height, he drives it around daily.
Bailey’s 2006 Honda Civic is also driven around daily with its colourful engine decorations sealing the deal with the judges.
“I really never prepared for this competition… I just drove to the event and decided to enter,” he added.
