JAMAICA’S Richard Russell is to be inducted into the Jamaica Cup Hall of Fame today at Half Moon Resort Hotel in St James, Montego Bay, beginning at 6:00 pm.

This will be the fifth staging of the annual Jamaica Cup Tennis Tournament for juniors and seniors competing in singles and doubles, which is one of the events in the annual Caribbean Cup Tennis Series played each year.

Russell is also a former Jamaica number one singles player who has defeated some of the world’s top players, including the great American Arthur Ashe in Jamaica.

The former Jamaica, world-ranked professional player will be inducted into the Jamaica Cup Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to the development of the sport of tennis in Jamaica for many years.

Special guests who will be attending the induction of Russell will be Johan Kriek, a former top seven ranked Association of Tennis Players in the world, and Jesse Witten, who reached the round of sixteen at the United States (US) Open Tennis Championships,.

Meanwhile, over 150 players from a number of countries are expected to participate in the Jamaica Cup tennis tournament.

Players are expected from Aruba, Brazil, Belgium, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Canada, Czech Republic, Colombia, France, Germany, Italy, United States of America, St Martin, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, the Netherlands, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico.

The Jamaicans who will, be playing in the junior boys singles are Romeo Edwards, Cole McNair, John Chin, Nicholas Gore, Nathan Cooper, while the girls are Michaela Stephens, Hayley McNair, Moesha Fox, Emma Dibbs, and Katherine Dibbs. all are in the main draw which begins on Monday.
