Man held with alleged stolen property after Carnival road march
A Manchester man, who was found with several cellphones and jewellery following Sunday’s Carnival road march in the Corporate Area, has been charged.
The man, 20-year-old Jamar Myrie of Kirkview Terrace in Ingleside, has been charged for breaches of the Larceny Act, a release from the police’s Corporate Communications Unit said yesterday.
Myrie, who was searched at a checkpoint on Sunday, was found with five cellular phones and several pieces of jewellery, the police said.
According to the release, detectives assigned to the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) have been appealing to individuals to come forward and identify the items that might have been stolen from them during the road march.
“Three persons have since come forward, resulting in Myrie being charged with three counts of larceny from the person. His court date will be announced soon,” the release said.
The police are appealing to other people who may have been victims of larceny during the road march to contact the Half-Way-Tree CIB at 926-8184, or police 119 emergency number.
