Kei Miller for Caribbean excellence awards
Jamaican poet and novelist Professor Kei Miller has been selected to receive the 2018 Anthony N Sabga Caribbean Awards for Excellence (ANSCAFE) in the Arts & Letters category.
The award will be presented at a ceremony scheduled for May 12 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
Miller is the fourth Jamaican to be awarded since the award scheme began in 2006. The others were Father Gregory Ramkissoon, founder of Mustard Seed Communities; medical scientist Professor Terrence Forrester; and child rights activist Claudette Richardson-Pious.
ANSCAFE recognises Caribbean people who have excelled in the areas of Arts & Letters, Entrepreneurship, Public & Civic Contributions and Science & Technology.
It is presented by the ANSA McAL Foundation — the philanthropic arm of the Trinidad-based ANSA McAL Group.
“The award programme celebrates and fosters Caribbean excellence. We are a strong set of people with dynamic talents and the ANSA McAL Foundation takes pride in recognising these individuals whilst encouraging others to follow in their footsteps,” said Maria Superville-Neilson, programme director of the Caribbean awards.
“We are looking forward to hosting the ceremony in beautiful Jamaica. Having held the ceremony in Guyana last year, Jamaica was a natural choice made more special considering one of Jamaica’s very own will be awarded this year. It also cements our programme’s Caribbean-ness,” she added.
Thirty-five laureates have been recognised for sterling contribution in their respective fields since the start of the programme.
