Rope in with Chi Ching Ching
“ From mi a youth, mi a dream ’bout the house an’ di land an’ pool with a view too,” Chi Ching Ching told fans on social media this week.
It seems the dancer/deejay may be closer to his dream based on the rapid rise of his career in the past two years.
Rope, his latest track, is not only a hit in Jamaican dance circles, but in Russia, England and Sweden. Produced by Sean Paul’s Dutty Rock Productions, Rope has even American actress Torrei Hart learning the move. The song is set for release soon and is featured on Chi Ching Ching’s upcoming debut album, Turning Tables.
“Mi album a drop very soon…next to come is di official release an’ video for Rope weh a do good inna di streets. A straight Turning Tables mi a pree,” Chi Ching Ching told Splash yesterday.
The album is also produced by Dutty Rock Productions and has other tracks like Crick Neck featuring Sean Paul and Rock the World. The latter has been remixed to feature African acts Stonebwoy and PatoRanking and American hype man Fatman Scoop. The visuals for the remixed single were directed by Kieran Khan and released on March 30.
Chi Ching Ching spent most of last year ‘rocking the world’ alongside Sean Paul in Europe, Australia and the United States.
He said the affiliation with the Grammy-winning deejay has greatly helped his career.
“Touring with him mek his Europe fans very loyal fans of mine now. When mi experience that tour life and see how thousands of people react to me on stage that only push me to be the best version of Chi Ching Ching,” he said.
Chi Ching Ching, born Radion Beckford, is from St Mary.
In his youth, he moved to Kingston to live with his father. At 19 years-old, he started dancing under the moniker
All Star and frequented popular street dances like Weddy Weddy and Hot Monday. He later adapted catchy phrases, one of which was “Chi Ching Ching” which eventually became his stage name.
In 2014, he tapped into his musical side with the release of Lock Pon Di Ting. Subsequent tracks include Popcorn Pop, Watchi Wiya, Way Up Stay Up, Puss in Boots, Get There, Elevate and Roast Or Fry (Breadfruit). The latter, released in 2016, has attracted more than two million views on YouTube, Chi Ching Ching’s most watched video to date. Though he is now a known artiste, Chi Ching Ching said he manages to strike a balance between dancing and deejaying.
“Same way I don’t put much thought into breathing, ’cause it’s a natural thing to me. Dancing is at my core cause a deh so mi start wid mi Red Carpet. So it’s just a mind set now where I am working around the clock to be greater at everything.”
