Roadwork under way in Mavis Bank
RESIDENTS of Mavis Bank in rural St Andrew have welcomed the roadwork being done in their community, but some have questioned when other sections of the road will be fixed.
In February, the Jamaica Observer highlighted the residents’ plight when they appealed to the relevant authorities to fix their road.
Eina Spaulding is one of the residents who has raised concerns about other sections of the road that have not yet been attended to.
“Although they’ve dug up many places, they’ve only placed some marl over it and it still gives us some trouble,” said Spaulding.
She also said that workmen have not done any work on the section of the road that includes the Mount Charles Housing Scheme and Mahogany Vale.
“The only work now is being done by Galloway Lodge and we want to know what is happening with the sections in Mount Charles that have been dug up and left,” Spaulding said.
Manager of communication and customer services at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw, told the Observer last week that the NWA had received $30 million to repair the road from Gordon Town to Mount Charles to Mavis Bank.
The communication manager also said that NWA was in the process of finalising the procurement of works to be undertaken in the specified areas.
