Grange congratulates Atkinson, Sharpe for Commonwealth Games performances
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange has congratulated swimmer Alia Atkinson for winning the silver medal in the 50m breast stroke at the Commonwealth Games now taking place on Australia’s Gold Coast.
“Alia has won the first medal for Jamaica in these 21st Commonwealth Games continuing her exploits in the pool which have made her one of the top swimmers in the world and has made us proud,” said Grange.
Grange also had words of praise for Lori Sharpe who has created history by becoming the first Jamaican to complete a triathlon event at the Commonwealth Games.
“We admire the courage and determination of young Lori to enter and complete the triathlon. We know she trained very hard and out of dedication took part in various competitions leading up to the Games,” said the sport minister .
Grange said that all Jamaica asked of Lori was to do her best and “she did just that.”
