Man shot on Waltham Park Road
PEOPLE at a section of Waltham Park Road in St Andrew were sent scrambling yesterday afternoon when a man was shot in the area.
Up to press time yesterday, the injured man was being treated at hospital.
“Mi hear about six shots fire and then I ran off. By the time I look again I saw the youth bleeding out on the road,” said one alleged eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
A representative from the police’s Corporate Communications Unit was unable to provide details about the shooting incident but told the Jamaica Observer yesterday that the man was shot around 2:45 pm. The incident occurred in front of a wholesale and liquor store.
When the Observer arrived at the crime scene shortly after 4:00 pm, police were still processing the scene.
In the meantime, at least one businessman has expressed concerns that the shooting incident will affect his livelihood.
“People already have a stigma attached to this area and don’t really want to come down here, so you know when they hear this they’re going to think that it was [the business place] that was involved,” said the businessman, who said he rented party supplies.
The businessman also said that “this particular section of Waltham Park Road is not the trouble area, so now this is going to cause problems”.
