A Linstead man who was arrested during the state of emergency in the St Catherine North Police Division has been charged with murder.
He is 24-year-old Steven Rhoden, otherwise called ‘Devil’, of Mickleton district in St Catherine.
A joint press release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Jamaica Defence Force said yesterday that Rhoden was arrested on March 22 by members of the security forces during an operation at Frazer’s Content in the division.
Reports from the Linstead police are that about 11:25 am on December 20, 2017, 28-year-old Vaughn Gordon of Vanity Fair in Linstead and 36-year-old Jevando Morgan of Charlemont district, along with another man who is also of a St Catherine address, were standing on Royal Avenue in Linstead when a gunman opened fire hitting them.
The release said the three were taken to hospital where Gordon and Morgan died while undergoing treatment, and the third man admitted in serious condition.
“Following intensive investigation by detectives probing the incident, Rhoden was implicated and subsequently caught and arrested,” the joint force said. “He was charged on Saturday, March 31 and is scheduled to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday, April 16.”
