Clarke, McKennis poised for victory at Carifta Chess Champs
Adani Clarke and Darren McKennis enter today’s final day of competition at the Carifta Chess Championships in Paramaribo, Suriname, with perfect win records as they edge closer to victory.
In the Under-16 girls’ section Clarke has six wins from as many games, with Barbados’s Vanessa Greenidge next best with five wins and a loss.
In the Under-12 Absolute section, McKennis also boasts a six-win record with no defeats, but he is closely tracked by Dimitri Gontcharov of Bermuda, compatriot Jaden Shaw, and Suriname’s Jason Yeung, all with five wins and a loss.
Yesterday’s rounds five and six resulted in double wins for McKennis, Clarke, Joshua Smikle and Jaden Shaw, while Zaina O’Connor, John Stephenson, Shenel Gardner and Johmoi Blake all had one win on the day.
Today’s final round commences at 7:30 am (Jamaica time), with the closing ceremony set for 1:30 pm (Jamaica time).
