Mixed results for Jamaica on day 2 of Carifta Chess Champs
PARAMARIBO, Suriname — As action continued in the Carifta Chess Championship 2018 in Paramaribo, Suriname, rounds three and four were contested yesterday with the Jamaicans competing on 20 boards.
The middle rounds produced mixed results for the Jamaicans with only national U12 champions Darren McKennis and Any Stephenson along with Adani Clarke securing two wins each on the day, all three remains perfect through four rounds.
Jaden Shaw and John Stephenson secured a win a piece while Zaina OcConnor and Johmoi Blake secured 1.5 points each via a win and a draw.
The shocker of the day was defending U20 champion Shenel Gardner losing both her games, while disappointed she remains upbeat and is looking forward to the remaining three rounds to finish strong and hope she can get back into medal contention.
Action continues today in rounds five and six and will see the Jamaicans playing to stay in contention for top individual honours and the overall top team award.
