Leadoff runner Briana Williams, who is having a brilliant championships, was involved in her second record in as many days as, after setting the 100m record on Saturday when she ran 11.27 seconds (1.6m/s), she gave the team a brilliant start, enabling it to win by a massive margin to erase the 45.05 seconds set by another Jamaican foursome in 2009.
Sashieka Steele, Serena Cole and Tia Clayton ran the other legs as the Bahamas team that had a botched first baton change were second in 46.24 seconds and the Cayman Islands third in 47.74 seconds.
The Jamaican team that ran the record in Vieux Fort was Janieve Russell, Deandre Whitehorne, Shericka Moulton and Shericka Jackson.
The Boys’ Under 17 team also had things their own way as the team of Jahvel Granville, Vashaun Vascianna, Rajay Morris and Terrique Stennett clocked 41.04 seconds to beat the Cayman Islands (44.29 seconds) and Turks and Caicos (44.34 seconds).
Meanwhile, the Under 20 Girls’ team of Ockera Myrie, Michae Harriott, Ray-donna Lee and Amoi Brown won their race in 44.73 seconds with the Bahamas second in 24.24 seconds and Martinique third in 46.48 seconds.
The Boys’ Under 20 team, comprising Ryiem Robertson, Christopher Taylor, Xavier Nairne and Michael Bentley, completed the clean sweep, winning in 39.56 seconds.
Trinidad in their only relays of the evening were second in 40.29 seconds and Barbados third in 40.43 seconds.
