Harbour View slip into top six after 2-1 win over Boys’ Town
Harbour View FC kept their chances of reaching the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) top six position with a determined come-from-behind 2-1 win against Boys’ Town FC at Barbican field on Sunday.
Falling behind on the stroke of half-time from a goal by Bebeto McDonald, Harbour View dug deep on the resumption to turn the game around with goals from Deshane Beckford in the 58th minute, and skipper Nicholas Beckett in the 79th minute. The latter converted from a free kick from on top of the penalty area as a result of defender Wayne Willis committing an infringement.
“It was a game we could not afford to lose based on our determination to secure and maintain one of the top six places to reach the knockout stages of the Premier League. We started rather casually, but we were warned before the game that this could have been one of our toughest matches, as Boys’ Town with nothing to play for than to honour their remaining fixtures could be dangerous,” Assistant Coach Fabian Taylor said.
The three points proved most valuable for Harbour View, as they elevated themselves into sixth place of the RSPL on 39 points, the same as UWI FC, who also won their game 3-0 against leaders Portmore United FC, but with an inferior goal difference.
Portmore United lead with 59 points, ahead of Arnett Gardens on 47 points, followed by Tivoli Gardens on 43, the same as Cavalier SC, with Montego Bay United next on 40 points.
Reno FC are also on 39 points, followed by Humble Lion in ninth place on 36, and Waterhouse in 10th on 35. Sandals South Coast (19) and Boys’ Town (17) have already been eliminated from next season’s competition.
