Windies A target 3-nil sweep
KINGSTON, Jamaica — West Indies A Captain Kieran Powell says his team is going for a three-nil sweep when they square off against England Lions in the third and final unofficial Test at Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua, starting Monday afternoon.
West Indies A won the opening four-day game by two wickets at Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium on Jamaica’s north coast before action shifted to Sabina Park in the country’s capital of Kingston where the hosts strode to an innings and 17-run triumph inside three days.
“We are not looking to take things for granted. The team’s objective is to try to win this series three-nil. I guess we’re 66 per cent there,” said Powell.
“It’s a pink ball match and we’ve got to come at them hard again,” he added, referring to the colour ball to be used in the day/night contest.
England Lions skipper Keaton Jennings insisted that the visitors are hunting victory, not just to salvage consolation from the “Test” series.
“It’s not just consolation because guys are competing for England Lions. There’s a lot to play for, and hopefully we can have a good performance and a good competitive game of first-class cricket over the next four days,” Jennings told reporters.
He said the fact it is a day/night encounter makes little difference in how they will approach it.
“It adds a different dynamic, but I don’t think it changes the actual game. Whether it’s white ball, red ball or whatever conditions we are playing in, we want to win that game,” said the Lions’ captain.
The final “Test” will be followed a three-match one-day series. All those games are scheduled for Coolidge Cricket Ground, also in Antigua.
