The awesome treat
It wasn’t “home” as they know it, but 30 children displaced by the fire which destroyed Walker’s Place of Safety on January 16, partied in comfort and style in the upstairs lounge at Burger King’s Manor Centre store on February 1.
In addition to treating the wards of the State and their caregivers, Restaurant Associates Ltd, which also operates the Popeyes and Little Caesars franchises, presented a $1-million cheque to representatives of the Child Protection and Family Services Agency for the renovation of Walker’s Place of Safety.
Restaurant Associates Ltd’s Head of Sales and Marketing Sabrena McDonald Radcliffe, in welcoming the guests, described them as princes and princesses.
“You’re special and Awe, Awe, Awesome,” she said, utilising the current Burger King “Awesome” promotion.
“Mrs Lois Lake Sherwood, chair of Restaurant Associates Limited, and our CEO Richard Lake, have big hearts and when they heard about the fire they immediately wanted to do something to help cheer you up. Even in moments of sadness there is a lot of love in Jamaican society for you,” McDonald Radcliffe told the guests.
Guided by media personality Krystal Tomlinson, and recent University of York valedictorian Kemesha Kelly, the children developed vision boards, affirming their dreams and plans for the future while enjoying delicious meals from Burger King, Popeyes and Little Caesars amid showing off their dance moves.
The Child Protection and Family Services Agency team included CEO Rosalee Gage-Grey, her Executive Assistant Berali Waller, and Audrey Budhi, director of children and family programme.
