Barbadian caught with parcel of ganja strapped to thigh at NMIA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Detectives from the Narcotics Division arrested and charged a Barbadian for multiple breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act yesterday, after he attempted to board a flight destined to Barbados with a parcel of compressed ganja strapped to his thigh.
Charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking steps to export ganja is Kirk Weekes, a 36-year-old labourer of Flat Rock, St George in Barbados.
He is schedule to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday.
Reports are that about 2:40 pm, Weekes checked in to board a flight destined to Barbados from the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA). During security screening, he was searched by detectives and a parcel of compressed ganja was found strapped to each of his thighs.
The ganja weighs approximately 1.7 lbs and according to Narcotics Police, would have fetched 8000 BBD or approximately US$4,000 had it reached its destination.
