PP Boxing Production set to stage international series
On January 2 during a contract signing ceremony at OMG Restaurant in Mandeville, PP Boxing Production signed contracts with four of the local boxers booked to participate in the second staging of The Jamaica Elimination Boxing Series on Saturday at the Manchester High School.
During the ceremony, Marketing and Promotions Co-ordinator Wendy Freckleton of EWA Solutions explained that the Jamaica Elimination Boxing Series mission is to promote Jamaican boxers in the international arena, while encouraging local businesses to become partners to ensure that the initiative is sustainable.
According to President of PP Boxing Production and promoter of the Boxing Series, Paul Patmore, “We are using the sport of boxing to alleviate violence across Jamaica by teaching our young people to exercise self-control, while developing a skill and a potential career. We want the boxers to treat it as a business and we will be establishing an association, which will focus on the welfare of our boxers, while ensuring that they participate in government programmes such as NHT and NIS.”
Patmore added that PP Boxing Production was in the process of establishing a gym at the Manchester Club in Mandeville to develop local boxers, noting that this will create an opportunity for Manchester to become the training hub for central Jamaica.
Responding on behalf of the boxers, Sakima “Mr Smooth” Mullings said he deemed it a privilege to be able to participate in the boxing series and thanked Patmore for creating the opportunity for him and the other boxers, as fights are needed for them to develop their skills to compete on the international market.
The event saw three top Jamaican boxers Mullings, Kevin “Bus Boy” Hylton and Richard “Frog” Holmes, along with Glenroy “Bumpy” Beckford signing their contracts. Their fights will be arranged as follows: Kevin “Bus Boy” Hylton and Richard “Frog” Holmes will compete for the Country vs Town title, Glenroy “Bumpy” Beckford take on Jevaune James out of Miami and Mullings fight Alexis Perec from Miami.
The night will also see Andre Slowley matching skills with Luis Rivera out of Miami and there will also be five amateur fights.
The gates will open at 6:00 pm and at midnight Jamaica’s legend, Richard “Shrimpy” Clarke will be honoured in recognition of the years of service he has given to the sport of boxing in the country.
