Dacres ‘rejects’ own record
FedricK Dacres, the national record holder in the men’s discus throw, has “rejected” the 69.83m mark that he set at the King of the Ring meet held at Excelsior High in Kingston last weekend.
The mark would have improved his national record from 68.88m set at the same venue last year and would have been the world-leading mark so far this year.
In a post on the social media site Facebook Friday afternoon, Dacres rejected the mark, saying the disc he used did not have the integrity required to pass the basic requirements for the record.
“The disc that was used went through a bit of usage and went slightly off the weight mark of 2.0kg… it weighed in at 1.998kg, a very slight difference, but all the same off, so that mark is one that we would not want to be used,” his post said.
The post added: “Greetings everyone, I’m rejecting the mark of 69.83m which is the current national record, so in doing this the national record will revert to the one that was set by me last year of 68.88m.”
As a result, Dacres’ training partner and World Championships finalist Traves Smikle will be the world-leading mark.
