Omar Collymore charged with murder of wife, taxi operator
OMAR “Best” Collymore, the 35-year-old man accused of masterminding the murder of his wife on Stanley Terrace in Red Hills, St Andrew, earlier this year, has been formally charged.
He is scheduled to appear in court this week.
The police confirmed yesterday that Collymore was on Saturday charged with two counts of murder in relation to the killing of 32-year-old Simone Campbell-Collymore and 36-year-old taxi operator Winston Watson.
Collymore was captured during an operation at a guest house in St Elizabeth in the wee hours of Thursday morning, after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Tuesday.
The police said on Tuesday that after “intensive investigations”, Collymore and others were identified as co-conspirators in the double murder.
Speaking to the Jamaica Observer then, Superintendent Paul Thomas said that based on investigations, he was confident Collymore was the “mastermind” behind the shooting deaths which took place just outside a Red Hills apartment building.
The police had also revealed that two other people were already in custody in connection with the double murder and that other suspects were being sought.
At least one of those in custody has already been charged, however, the police did not provide a name yesterday.
