High Hopes
Rusea’s High is expected to have the support of the entire western end of the country on Saturday as they go after their 11th lien on the ISSA/ Flow daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition in the final against Clarendon College at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, set to start at 4:00 pm.
The final is expected to be an entertaining game between two teams that are at their best and hungry for victory.
Rusea’s High, who last won the competition six years ago in 2011, roared into the final on the back of a thrilling 5-2 romp over St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) in last week Tuesday’s semi-finals at the same venue.
Clarendon College were also 5-2 winners, battering a valiant Dinthill Technical team, also on Tuesday, and will be seeking their first win since 2014 and their eighth overall title.
Rusea’s High dominating performance over STETHS just over a week ago, would have restored their confidence, and the faith of their army of fans after losses to Dinthill Technical in the semi-finals of the Ben Francis KO, and Kingston College in the first round of Flow Super Cup, when they were battered 4-1.
Last week they came back from a goal down to score five straight against a tough STETHS defence, before giving up a late one, but by then had secured safe passage to Saturday’s final.
The return from injury of midfielder Shawn Bradford would have been a massive boost to the Rusea’s High team and he will join an impressive attacking force that includes Daniel Reid and Leonardo Fogarthy.
But Rusea’s will come up against arguably one of the most fearsome attacking teams in the country. Led by Nique Daley, who has scored in his last four games, along with Lamar Walker and Ricardo McIntosh, Clarendon College are able to give any defence nightmares.
The Rusea’s defence and midfield must be prepared to work for the full duration of the game — regulation 90 minutes or extra- time if necessary — for if they allow Clarendon College to get too far ahead, could regret it.
