Cain, Stephens capture Mayberry tennis titles
TOP seeds Damani Cain and Michaela Stephens captured the Boys’ and Girls’ 16 and under singles titles, respectively, at the sixth staging of the 2017 Mayberry Investments Limited Open Junior Tennis Championships at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre last weekend.
Cain defeated Keyondre Clarke 6-0 and 7-5 in the boys’ final, while Stephens stopped second seed Jenna Harrison in the girls’ final 6-2 and 7-5.
Both Cain and Stephens have been dominant in the junior competitions this year, copping a number of titles that include the Boys’ and Girls’ 18 and under singles titles.
The Boys’ 14 and under singles final was won by Blake Shoucair, who defeated Russell Fairman in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. The Girls’ 14 and under singles was won by Alicia Pairman, who won all of her three matches in the round robin, beating Peta-Gaye Graham 8-5, Re-Ann Barclay 8-1 and Thandie Sampson 8-2.
Joshua Haye won the Boys’ 12 and under singles title by defeating Jahmarie Swan in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Danill Moe won the Boys’ 12 and under consolation singles with an 8-1 win over Dimitri Silvera.
Dominic Lopez won the Boys’ 16 and under consolation singles with an 8-2 victory over Jonah Leo-Rhynie.
