Mayberry Open Junior Tennis Championships runs for academic achievers
Brokerage firm Mayberry Investments, collaborated with CB Group on Sunday for its annual UWI 5K run at the UWI Mona Bowl, UWI Campus.
It has become a tradition for the university community to find ways in aiding student development at the University of the West Indies (UWI) by any means possible and the 5K run/walk is only one of the initiatives that have been undertaken over the past six years.
The CB Group UWI 5K had patrons out in their numbers in support of an event that could possibly help someone who is not financially able to afford the high tuition fees. The 5K run/walk, which is now a calendar event for many students and outsiders, continues to grow as many have shown interest in this worthy cause.
“You know you have to be dedicated to get up on a Sunday at 5:00 am to come and run, and although I may be tired and out of breath, I feel a great sense of accomplishment to be here among like-minded individuals who see the need for a change, to help our brothers and sisters. I’m very happy that CB and Mayberry Investments continue to invest in our future students,” Dennis Stevens, a patron explained.
Anika Jengelley, assistant vice-president of marketing at Mayberry, said the event was a total success.
“Each year we’ve been impressed by how much this event has grown and truly inspired by how far-reaching its goodwill has been. Our commitment to assisting in the development of young people, and in the scenario, helping to provide an avenue for academic achievement to young people who have shown tremendous ability but lack the means, is truly what drives us to continue to support this initiative. We look forward to continuing to partner with UWI and CB to make this event a mainstay for years to come,” Jengelley noted.
