Showcasing St Mary’s best
Dear Editor,
I wholeheartedly congratulate Dr Floyd Morris, and his wife, on his accomplishments. He became the first blind senator of the Jamaican Parliament and today he holds a doctor of philosophy degree.
Alongside him is the newly elected Member of Parliament for St Mary South Eastern Dr Norman Dunn, who, like Morris, overcame great odds to succeed. These two distinguished men are celebrated sons of St Mary.
Incidentally, I was a student on the Mona campus of The University of the West Indies with these two men and the present prime minister, Andrew Holness. I did not know then Floyd was blind. He walked unaided, but his friends were constantly by his side. What I observed about these three men was their focus; they were very businesslike and not into the ‘groupie’ scene. It has paid off.
In showcasing St Mary’s best, the constituents behaved admirably in the by-election. Also the residents in Robin’s Bay, St Mary, took to cleaning and clearing roadways. Keep it up, St Mary.
