STETHS, Calabar to meet in Flow Super Cup semis
CATHERINE HALL, St James — St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) came from an early goal down to beat St Andrew Technical 4-3 on penalty kicks at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Friday night and advanced to back-to-back semi-finals of the F low Super Cup competition.
After playing to a 1-1 regulation scoreline, the teams advanced directly to the shoot-out which the Ben Francis KO semi-finalists won and joined first-time qualifiers Calabar High as the first two semi-finalists after the Walker Cup semi-finalists upset Ben Francis KO champions Clarendon College 4-3 in the first game.
Friday night’s winners STETHS and Calabar High will now meet in the semi-finals set for Sabina Park next weekend.
In Friday’s match, a save in the penalty shoot-out by STETHS goalkeeper Kenroy Wallace set up his team for the win.
Wallace saved the first kick from defender Nicholas Nelson, while STATHS’ second kicker Asprellia Alexander hit the bar with his effort.
STETHS’ Clifton Woodbine, who had converted a penalty in the first half to level the scores, was wide with his shot from the spot, but Nickjay White, Tahjay Green, Chris-Andrew Dixon, and Alex Thompson all scored.
David Smith, Jevoney Johnson and Barrington Bailey scored for STATHS, who face St George’s College in a crucial Manning Cup quarter-final play-off on Tuesday.
In regulation time, Johnson had given STATHS the lead in the fifth minute when he fired the ball between the legs of the STETHS goalkeeper Wallace.
Woodbine, however, pulled STETHS level midway the half when he converted a penalty kick after Smith had inadvertently handled the ball in his own box.
