Flash flood watch extended for eastern parishes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological (Met) Service has extended a flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Portland, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew and St Mary until 5:00 pm this evening.
A trough across the central Caribbean continues to produce unstable conditions across Jamaica, the Met service said. Satellite imagery and radar reports indicate that light to moderate showers and thunderstorms have been affecting sections of particularly eastern and central parishes throughout the night into early this morning.
The forecast is for cloudy conditions with periods of showers and afternoon thunderstorms to continue to affect sections of particularly eastern parishes throughout the day today. Flash flooding is therefore a possibility over some low-lying and flood-prone areas of eastern parishes.
A flash flood watch means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
