Herbert Morrison chase 4 straight in schoolboy basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Herbert Morrison Technical, double defending champions in the ISSA Western Conference boys’ basketball competition, will be going for a fourth-straight win in both sections when they host St James High and Spot Valley at Bogue this afternoon.
Herbert Morrison have been running rough shod over the competition so far with a series of lopsided victories and is expected to remain unbeaten after the games today.
Holland High, who were beaten in both sections by neighbours William Knibb Memorial on Thursday, will host York Castle High in both sections today.
York Castle are coming off wins as well last week, beating St James High and Spot Valley.
On Saturday, Cornwall College won their fourth-straight game in the Under-16 section and rebounded from their first loss in the Under-19 with big wins over Rhodes Hall and Green Pond High respectively in games played at Rhodes Hall.
Omar Campbell had a big double-double to lead the juniors to a 30 points 63-33 win over Rhodes Hall, while the seniors swamped Green Pond 78-14.
Campbell, who has led his school in scoring in every game played so far, scored 19 points and had 18 rebounds, while Kendrick Brown scored 10 points in support for Cornwall College who led 14-7, 32-18 and 45-27 at the intervals.
Rahime Tomlinson was the top scorer for the home team with 12 points, while Ovain Dennis scored seven points and had seven rebounds and six assists.
It was all one-way traffic in the Under-19 game as, after rallying against Muschett High and just falling at the end, Cornwall College dominated and kept adding to their lead from the start against an overmatched Green Pond team.
Cornwall College, up by double figures from the first quarter, up 17-3 and were ahead 44-8 at half time and 66-8 at the end of the third quarter.
Ojay Marshall led the way with a season-high 22 points, while Enrique Blagrove scored 18 points and had five rebounds, six steals and six assists.
On Thursday, former champions William Knibb Memorial and newcomers to the Western Conference, York Castle, both scored double wins.
William Knibb Memorial doubled up neighbour Holland High, while York Castle High had wins over St James High and Spot Valley in the Under-16 and Under-19 categories, respectively.
At Holland, William Knibb won the Under-16 game by 11 points (40-29) despite a game — high 19 points from Flawless Travers.
