Cavalier tame Humble Lion 2-0
Cavalier Soccer Club climbed two places up the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) as Chevon Marsh and Alex Marshall hit the target to help them defeat Humble Lion FC 2-0, in a midweek game at Stadium East on Thursday.
Marsh scored 15 seconds after the restart for the second half, while Marshall scored in minute 51 to move Cavalier up to fifth place from eighth on 10 points. Cavalier now join Harbour View on 10 points from three wins, three defeats and a draw. Harbour View are ahead of Cavalier on a one-goal differential. The defeat has left Humble Lion, one of last year’s top-performing teams, mired in the relegation zone on five points in 11th position, down from 10th.
In other games in the round, Waterhouse came from behind to beat Sandals South Coast 2-1, Arnett Gardens dumped up Reno FC 5-0, Harbour View trounced Boys’ Town 3-0, Montego Bay United and Tivoli Gardens ended 0-0 and UWI edged Portmore United 1-0.
Cavalier SC, bouyed from a 2-0 win against Waterhouse FC on Monday night and playing on home ground, went at Humble Lion from the opening whistle. But the Clarendon-based team could have afforded the complacency and matched the home team for drive and effort, with the first good shot at goal by Ricardo Dennis. The rest of the half resulted in near misses and in so doing ended goalless.
Humble Lion returned for the second half looking listless at the back, and before Referee Odette Hamilton could remove from her lips the whistle that signalled the restart, Cavalier struck through Marsh from a solo effort on the right side of play. Faced with only goalkeeper Sanchez Lloyd in front of him, Marsh picked his spot and Cavalier were on their way to a their win.
Five minutes later, Marsh repeated his solo effort using the same channel and, from a similar distance, hammered in another low shot to the right of the goalkeeper, who on this occasion got his boy behind the ball. But he let it escape his grasp and Marshall was on spot to collect the rebound and poke it out of the reach of Lloyd.
