al-Faisal facing fresh accusations of terrorist recruitment in India
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Radical Muslim cleric Sheik Abdullah al-Faisal has again been accused of being involved in terrorist recruitment, this time in India.
Reports have surfaced that the Gujarat Anti-terrorist Squad in India has discovered social media conversations between two arrested Islamic State (IS) operatives and al-Faisal.
It added that the operatives discussed weapons, jihad, and Islamic State via social media platforms Whatsapp and Facebook.
The IS operatives have been identified as Kasim Stimberwala, a lab technician in India, and Ubed Baig Mirza, an Indian lawyer.
Foreign media also reported that they were in touch with al-Faisal and planned to move to Jamaica.
Anti-Terrorist Squad sources said the duo’s Facebook account was blocked for using radical words during their conversation with the controversial Muslim cleric.
An official stated that efforts were being made to coordinate with Jamaican authorities for an interrogation of the radical preacher based in Jamaica.
The US Government has accused the 53-year-old al-Faisal, who was born Trevor William Forrest, of recruiting people to join the Islamic State and was arrested in August on an extradition warrant.
Extradition proceedings against him are scheduled to commence on December 14 in the St Andrew Parish Court.
