Rains stall drag meet
THE National Drag Racing Circuit (NDRC) has rescheduled its upcoming meet Full Throttle 4: After Shock to Sunday, November 12, at Vernamfield in Clarendon.
“The NDRC will continue to update racers and the public of any additional decisions and information regarding the rescheduled race meet,” Stephen Gunter, NDRC executive member, told the Jamaica Observer’s Auto magazine.
Gunter explained that the rains have had a negative effect on the race meet, as the meet was previously scheduled for October 29.
“The rain affects our preparations for the race meet itself,” he explained.
Areas affected would be infrastructure set-up, the ability to treat the racing surface with traction compound, and low patronage.
“Rain would affect our patronage as persons are inclined to stay home,” he stressed.
The meet, which would have restarted drag racing since their summer break, was rescheduled to the new date on the basis of weather projections for the island over last weekend.
“Due to deteriorating weather conditions affecting the island, and in consultation with the Met Office of Jamaica, the NDRC is postponing Full Throttle #4 in association with AMSOIL and Hawkeye,” he said.
In light of a very positive test and tune, drag racing fans will have to hold on for another two weeks to get their fix of the sport.
“Test and tune went well. The timing equipment performed without any issues. Seventy racers were able to test their cars,” Gunter added.
