Cornwall College guard of honour for Colin Bullock
CORNWALL College Old Boys Kingston Chapter (CCOBKC) will form a guard of honour in final tribute to distinguished old boy and ‘Man of Might’ Colin Bullock at his funeral service tomorrow, beginning at 10:00 am at the Sts Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Old Hope Road in Kingston.
Bullock, best remembered as financial secretary in the Minstry of Finance and director general at the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), died on October 18 after ailing for sometime. He was honoured in 2013 by his alma mater for distinguished service to the Montego- Bay-based school and to Jamaica.
In a tribute to Bullock ahead of the funeral, the Cornwall College Old Boys noted that he attended the institution in the 1960s, after which he went on to The University of the West Indies from 1969 to 1974, earning the BSc and MSc in Economics. He then lectured in the Department of Economics at UWI, Mona, from 1974 to 1986, and again from September 2008 to April 2013.
“The CCOBKC salutes Colin as a civil servant who made a significant contribution to Jamaica’s economic development. He served in the Bank of Jamaica for close to 20 years, rising to the position of deputy governor. He was seconded to the Ministry of Finance and Planning to serve as financial secretary from 2005 to 2008, after which he returned to lecture at UWI.
“We salute, too, his wider public service on the boards of the Bank of Jamaica, the Planning Institute of Jamaica and the Statistical Institute of Jamaica. We also salute his service as chairman of the board of commissioners of the Financial Services Commission; chairman of the Jamaica Social Investment Fund; and his last assignment as director general of the PIOJ.
“Truly a distinguished Cornwallian and committed Jamaican, Colin exhibited humility and decency throughout his life. His engaging teaching approach influenced hundreds of economics students who took his courses, and he provided guidance to many with generosity of spirit. In 2013 Colin was honoured by the Chapter for his outstanding service to academia and finance in Jamaica together with his contribution to the school.
“In his easy-going way, he impacted so many persons for the better, and the CCOBKC is grateful for the life of this gifted ‘Man of Might’.”
