Sandals South Coast seek first RSPL win
FROME, Westmoreland — Promoted Sandals South Coast will have a good opportunity to get their first Red Stripe Premier League scalp today when they host fellow basement dwellers Waterhouse FC at the Frome Sports Club in Westmoreland, set to start at 3:00 pm.
Neither team has managed a victory after six games each, and Sandals South Coast are in rock bottom position on three points, one less than the former champions Waterhouse. But, today’s winner will jump several places to at least ninth.
Montego Bay United (MBU) won back-to-back games for the first time this season as they followed up a 3-1 win over Sandals South Coast with a 1-0 win over FC Reno at Frome on Sunday, the home team losing for the first time this year.
FC Reno have also failed to score in their last three games and have dropped to fourth place in the standings on nine points, while MBU are in seventh place on seven points, up two places from last week.
All three western-based teams will be back in action come this weekend. FC Reno return home to host leaders Portmore United, Sandals SC will be at Effortville to face Humble Lion, and MBU will take on defending champions Arnett Gardens on Monday night in Kingston.
Today, however, Sandals SC have an opportunity to improve their statistics as they have scored just three times in their six games, one more than Waterhouse’s meagre returns.
Despite not winning, Sandals SC have shown glimpses of what they are capable of, and against Waterhouse they could finally get over the hump and land their first three points.
Lenard Rankine, Timar Lewis and Carvel Blake are the Sandals SC players who have scored so far, and they will be eager to add more goals in a bid to lead their team to a long-overdue win.
