Corporal Melvin Smith was truly beloved
Dear Editor,
The executive and members of the Manchester Neighbourhood Watch Council are grieving with all Jamaicans, but especially the Manchester community, on the untimely passing of our beloved Corporal Melvin Smith.
We offer sincere condolence to his dear wife and daughter and all members of the Manchester Community Safety and Security Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Corporal Smith worked tirelessly with all the neighbourhood watches in Manchester and would go beyond the call of duty to see that the needs of the watches are met. He certainly lived and died by the mantra of the Jamaica Constabulary Force in service to his fellow men to ‘serve, protect and reassure’.
Certainly the vessel called “The Manchester Neighbourhood Watch Council” is broken, but we resolve to continue the cause to help to transform our nation and to look out for our neighbours.
Corporal Smith had a kind heart beyond measure and showed us that kindness is simply love flowing out in gentleness.
Verna Manning, JP
President
