Eat Jamaican Month starts tomorrow
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (MICAF) in collaboration with the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) is encouraging Jamaicans to eat more local produce during November, which has been designated Eat Jamaican Month.
Under the theme ‘Grow What We Eat, Eat What We Grow’, with special focus on healthy living, the campaign, which will be launched by portfolio minister Karl Samuda on Wednesday, November 1, is aimed at promoting greater consumption of Jamaican agricultural produce to support increased production as well as to enhance supply of Jamaican branded products.
In a release today, the ministry said that Eat Jamaican Month marks the 14th anniversary of the ‘Eat What We Grow…Grow What We Eat’ campaign, which was launched by the JAS in 1993.
Among the activities to be held to celebrate Eat Jamaican Month are supermarket promotions and an Eat Jamaican Expo featuring a celebrity cook-off, the ministry said.
