Director of Elections to know fate by end of November
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Director of Elections Orette Fisher is to continue filling the post until the end of November to facilitate the hearing and determination for the application for an injunction, which seeks to bar the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) from terminating his one-year contract, which expires today.
The undertaking for Fisher to continue filling the post temporarily was given to the Supreme Court by the Attorney General Chambers representing the ECJ and Fisher’s attorney Hugh Wildman.

Wildman, yesterday, explained that the Electoral Commission (Interim) Act mandates that any appointment to the Office of Director of Elections must be for seven years.
The director is nominated by the eight commissioners of the ECJ, but only six — three selected and three nominated — have to be in agreement in order to effect his dismissal.
