Eye-on-eye, Mandeville Regional Hospital Eye Clinic
Dear Editor,
Each time I visit the eye clinic I observe the quality of health care delivery. I must say the staff (nurses, doctors and other workers) must be highly commended.
In July 2017 my mother had a laceration to her eye and was referred by her private eye doctor to the Mandeville Regional Hospital (MRH) Eye Clinic for emergency surgery. She has since been in the care of these highly professional and caring individuals.
At minutes to 7:00 am each day the doors are opened to a very clean clinic environment in which patients sit and wait to see the nurses and doctors. After brief devotions with patients the clinic officially begins at 7:30 am with a warm welcome by the nurse, who usually proceeds to explain to all patients what to expect and the types of patients seen at the clinic: patients doing surgery that day, patients who did surgery the previous day, regular patients returning for follow-up visits, new patients with referral letters. The nurses and doctors carry out their duties in an efficient and diligent manner. The only time you will hear a raise in their voices is when they call the patients’ names.
For the first few visits I thought to myself this was a pleasant surprise, as oftentimes you hear horror stories on how patients are treated at public hospitals. For experience, while each visit the entire room is filled to capacity, the level of professionalism and friendly demeanour of these hard-working staff can be seen from the moment they walk in.
After almost four months of experiencing excellent patient care, I am satisfied with the services and on each visit I am comforted knowing that my mommy is in the hands of some of the best doctors and nurses at the MRH Eye Clinic.
Keep up the excellent work all of you — the ladies who ensure the clinic is clean, the front line staff, the porters, administrative staff, doctors, nurses, and other health care workers in the operating theatre.
