The top tier of the Ministry of Education and senior managers at the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) seem pleased with the outcome of their recent meeting to discuss the university’s efforts to partner with select high schools across the island to offer college credits through an associate degree programme. Minister Ruel Reid (third left) welcomed the initiative, noting that it was in accordance with government’s policy position that students should leave high school at grade 13 with an associate degree. The meeting, which was held at UCC’s Worthington Avenue campus in Kingston on October 11, also discussed the proposed passage of a higher education Act and the setting up of a task force by government to promote the export of higher education. With Reid are (from left) Geraldine Adams, UCC deputy group executive chairman; Dr Winston Adams, UCC group executive chairman; Professor Dennis Gayle, UCC group executive chancellor; Professor Bernadette Warner, UCC executive vice president for academic affairs, and Dean-Roy Bernard, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information.
