Masakadza eyes hundred as Zimbabwe resist
BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe (CMC) — Opener Hamilton Masakadza was closing in on his fifth Test hundred as Zimbabwe kept West Indies wicket-less in the second session on the opening day of the second Test on Sunday.
At tea, the hosts were 147 for three, the right-handed Masakadza on 93 and Peter Moor unbeaten on 47.
The pair batted through the entire session and have so far posted 133 for the fourth wicket, a partnership which pulled Zimbabwe around from a rocky position of 14 for three in the first hour of the day.
Masakadza has faced 158 balls and counted nine fours and two sixes while Moor, in for his first match of the series, has struck two fours in a 140-ball knock.
Seamer Kemar Roach has been the leading bowler with two for 24, and it was he who caused consternation in the first session for Zimbabwe.
He had opener Solomon Mire caught at the wicket for four in the day’s fourth over with as many runs on the board before also bowling the experienced Brendan Taylor for one, nearing the hour mark.
In between, speedster Shannon Gabriel sent back Craig Ervine, bowled without scoring, at 11 for two in the day’s seventh over.
