Seprod, Spanish Grain Store cop Business House 5-A-Side titles
Seprod Limited and Spanish Grain Store were crowned Division One and Division Two champions of the Western Sports-sponsored 2017 Business House 5-A-Side football competitions, after the finals at NWC playing field, Mona, last Saturday.
Spanish Grain Store emerged double champions when they defeated Prime Sports 6-1 in the Division Two final. They had won the CablePro Data Services-sponsored Knockout title the previous Thursday, after defeating Seprod Limited 3-0 in the final.
Seprod Limited defeated Scotiabank ‘A’ 3-1 in penalty shoot-out to win the Division One title after both teams had played to a 1-1 full and extra-time draw.
The Division Two final was a blowout as Spanish Grain Store went ahead in the fourth minute when Marvin Muirhead, in trying to stop a cross, kicked the ball into his own net. Kemar Lawrence scored the first of his two goals in the 10th minute and Shamari Hibbert made it 3-0 in the 18th minute. Lawrence got his second goal in the 29th minute, with Kymarley Simms (45th) and Joel Nicholas (50th) getting the other goals. Dushawn Morrison scored the consolation for Prime Sports in the 42nd minute.
The MVP and leading goalscorer received $3,500 each and a pair of football boots valued at $12,000 from Western Sports. Champions Spanish Grain Store also received $40,000 and Prime Sports received $20,000. Mckay Security placed third and Konnexx were fourth.
The Division One final saw Seprod Limited trying to make amends for their Knockout final loss, when they met former champions Scotiabank ‘A’ . The game started at a fast pace, with both teams missing easy scoring chances. Nicholas Scott, Donovan Hibbert and Jermaine Gardener were off target for Scotiabank, while Andre Moulton, Ian Davis and Norval Christie forced goalkeeper Damion Crooks to make some good saves.
Seprod took the lead in the 29th minute when Captain Ian Davis scored. Scotiabank got the equaliser in the 39th minute, when Jermaine Gardener’s powerful shot beat goalkeeper Doran Morgan. The game ended 1-1 and went to penalty shootout in which Andre Moulton, Ian Davis and Norval Christie scored for Seprod. Gardener scored his kick for Scotiabank. Third place went to Scotiabank ‘B’ and Kingston Bookshop placed fourth.
Davion Garrison of Scotiabank ‘B’ won the Division One Leading Goalscorer award with 13 goals. Ian Davis of Seprod was the Division One MVP. The MVP and leading goalscorer received $3,500 each and a pair of football boots valued at $12,000 from Western Sports.
Seprod Limited received $60,000 and Scotiabank ‘A’ collected $30,000 as prize monies. Craig Walters of Spanish Grain Store was the manager of the year; Marcel “Fuzzy” Gayle of Spanish Grain Store and Scotiabank ‘A’ was the coach for the year. Finals referees Wayne Brown and Alphonso Daley were also given awards. Prime Sports won the Fair Play/Most Disciplined Team and most improved team award.
Andre Moulton of Seprod Limited won the Knockout Leading Goalscorer award with five goals, while goalkeeper Kavon Salmon of Spanish Grain Store was the MVP. They each received $3,000 and a pair of Adidas football boots from sponsor CablePro Data Services, while Spanish Grain Store received $30,000 and runners-up Seprod Limited got $15,000.
