Four former champs make winning start
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Four former champions got off to winning starts as the quarter-final round of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup competition got underway yesterday.
Clarendon College and St James High in Group One, St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) in Group Three and Dinthill Technical in Group Four all won their games. Lennon High, Manchester High and Holmwood Technical were also winners.
Defending champions Cornwall College led Rusea’s High 1-0 at half-time in their Group Two game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Clarendon College took the lead in Group One after their 3-1 win over Garvey Maceo High in the second game of the double-header at Juici Field.
Former national Under-17 striker Nique Daley scored a brace to lead Clarendon College to their 13th-straight win, while Ricardo McIntosh scored the other.
St James High also won in Group One with a 2-0 win over Spot Valley High, who were losing for the first time this season as Cal-Wayne Allen scored a second-minute penalty kick and 15-year-old Tyrique Clarke added a second in the 63rd minute.
Damani Henderson went from hero to zero after scoring both goals for STETHS when he was sent off by referee Sean Wright as his team beat Little London 2-1 at Frome in their Group Three game.
Malique Williams scored the goal for Little London.
Holmwood Technical threw their hats in the ring for a spot in the next round after ending Glenmuir High’s perfect run of 11 games with a 1-0 win at Manchester High.
Philmore Virgo scored the winner in the first half as Holmwood Technical extended their unbeaten run to 13 games.
Kaheen Parris took his overall tally to 25 goals, and fifth since the end of the first round, as he scored twice for Dinthill Technical in their 4-0 drubbing of Frome Technical at Manchester High.
Shamari Davis and Andre Fletcher got the other goals for Dinthill Technical, who are now leading Group Four on goal difference.
Manchester High blanked Central High 2-0 in the first game at Juici Field as Marlando Maxwell and Marcel Holness got the goals.
At Highgate Community Centre, 14-year-old Tyrese Harrison scored for Lennon High as they edged St Mary Technical 1-0 in their Group Two game.
