Vows: Our Love Our Love
When CEO of Axiom Pictures Limited Mark Scott met Rachelle Biersay, student pilot, he knew it was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. Indeed, the friendship blossomed into something more beautiful — love — and on August 4, 2017 at the University of the West Indies Chapel, Mona, the two sealed their union. Vows meets them at the altar.
How They Met
Mark and Rachelle met at the Caribbean Aviation Training Centre, Tinson Pen, where they were both enrolled. They liked each other at first glance and soon became inseparable.
A class project further sealed the deal as they both shared their ambitions, goals, likes and dislikes while working on their assignments together. Mark would extend his hours at school with Rachelle to talk aviation, business and life in general. Their fondness for each other soon turned to love.
The Proposal…
was a complete surprise. The two were en route to Chukka Cove in Ochi. Mark pulled over to enjoy the beautiful scenery and used the moment to affirm his love. Rachelle then spotted a drone in the distance and turned to point it out to Mark. When she turned around he was on one knee with an open ring box with a ring gleaming inside. “Will you marry me?” he asked… there was very little hesitation as Rachelle said ‘Yes!’
The Ceremony
The exchange of vows took place at the University of the West Indies Chapel, Mona, where the theme, appropriately enough, was aviation. Kara Anderson, wedding coordinator at Petals and Promises, used shades of red, gold and white to decorate the chapel.
To the strains of Canon in D Major the maid of honour, Dr Kimberly Scott, made her way up the aisle dressed in a David’s Bridal sleeveless keyhole beaded-waist red dress. She was escorted by the best man David Scott, who wore a black suit by Kenneth Cole.
There was hardly a dry eye in the chapel as Hanif Biersay, the bride’s father, and her uncle Mark Williams escorted Rachelle up the aisle to The Wedding Song by Kenny G. Rachelle was a gorgeous bride in a sweetheart-cut diamond white sequinned mermaid gown with rhinestones and pearls, embellished with a belt from Angela’s Bridal and Formals, Pompano Beach, Florida. Eagerly awaiting his bride at the altar stood a dapper Mark in a Dillard’s black tuxedo. The ceremony, officiated by Rev Canon Peter Mullings and Rev Father Michael Allen, included a sand ceremony.
The Reception
The red, gold and white theme continued inside the Gold Room at Mona Visitors’ Lodge. Additional décor highlights included six bistro tables where photos from the couple’s aviation-themed engagement photo shoot at Tinson Pen were displayed.
Guests stepped into a quasi ‘check-in’ area where they signed the guest book and wrote congratulatory wishes on the photo canvas. They would then take their seats at tables named after major global airlines..
The bridal party made their entrance to Feel This Moment, by Pitbull featuring Christina Aguilera, followed by the newly-weds, who danced in to the music of I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas, cheered on by friends and family. This was followed by the couple’s first dance as husband and wife to Kenny G’s Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You. Post-formalities, guests enjoyed a sumptuous three-course meal and witnessed the cutting of the four-tiered wedding rum fruitcake created by the groom’s aunt Olive Peynado and decorated by Pansy Burnett from Petals and Promises. It was truly an occasion to remember.
