Brown’s Town upset Rusea’s 1-0
CATHERINE HALL, St James — Brown’s Town High scored the biggest upset in the first-leg games of the second round of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition after beating fancied Rusea’s High 1-0 a t the Montego Bay Sports Complex yesterday.
Roshawn Vernon’s first-half goal gave the 23rd-ranked Brown’s Town a slim lead over the 10th-ranked Rusea’s going into Wednesday’s return leg that will be played at Drax Hall.
Meanwhile, Garvey Maceo High, Central High, St James High, and Lennon High all took leads in their first-leg games also played yesterday, while Little London came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Alston High.
At the Montego Bay Sports Complex, Brown’s Town silenced a big Rusea’s High crowd after Vernon beat goalkeeper St Michael Edwards from close range in the 29th minute.
Rusea’s High had up to then dominated the possession and hit the crossbar twice in the first half, but will go into the return leg trailing on Wednesday.
Donald Rhule scored both goals as Central High beat Petersfield 2-0 at Frome and will return home with a good led for Wednesday’s return leg.
Ten-man Lennon High got their second round off to a good start with a 2-1 win over Port Antonio High at Lynch Park with Kwesi Watts scoring both goals.
They will be without the influential Leonard Jibbison in the second leg on Tuesday after he was sent off in the 81st minute yesterday after picking up his second caution of the game.
St James High had the biggest win among the teams playing their first-leg games yesterday, blanking Mile Gully High 4-0 at the Mile Gully Sports Complex.
Garvey Maceo will also return home with a lead after edging Seaforth High 2-1 at Paul Bogle High.
