Titchfield, Port Antonio end in 1-1 stalemate
BUFF BAY, Portland — Port Antonio High scored twice but made little ground in their recent Zone L ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup game, as one of their goals was in favour of Titchfield High. The encounter ended 1-1.
Benjamin Byfield gave Port Antonio an early lead in 32nd minute, but goalkeeper Thomas Williams nullified the that effort when he scored a 58th-minute own goal to hand Titchfield a share of the spoils in the contest at Lynch Park on Saturday.
In an evenly-contested encounter in wet conditions, both teams showed good attacking capabilities. But good glove work from Port Antonio’s Williams and Javardo McDonald in goal for Titchfield denied the strikers at either end.
Port Antonio eventually took the lead when Odane Buckley’s cross into the penalty area was headed in by Byfield, who did well to leap above the defenders. They continued to launch a number of attacks through Buckley in combination with Alex Duncan, but custodian McDonald proved equal to the task to keep the score at 1-0 at the break.
Titchfield came out pouncing immediately upon resumption in their probe for the equaliser, and they were duly rewarded shortly before the hour mark. Raheem Bryan’s shot at goal was tipped over the crossbar by Williams, but he went from hero to being culpable in a matter of seconds after he safely held on to, and then released the resultant corner into his own goal.
Both teams tried to get the clincher as the game progressed, but the winner proved elusive, and the game ended without any further goal.
