Four more teams qualified for the second round of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition as Manchester High, former champions Glenmuir High, Denbigh High and Port Antonio all confirmed at least second place in their zones after scoring wins in their return games yesterday.

Manchester High, who beat Belair High 4-0, and Glenmuir High, who had a similar score line against Foga Road, in rescheduled games, both extended perfect win records to seven and six games, respectively.

Five schools have now secured their places in the next round as yesterday’s winners joined former champions Dinthill Technical, who are only a win away from taking Zone K honours.

Manchester romped to a 4-0 win over third-placed Belair High with goals from Marcell Holness, Brandon Brown, Marlando Maxwell and goalkeeper Odaine Reid, who converted a penalty kick.

The Andrew Edwards-coached Manchester improved to 21 points in Zone F, as Mile Gully beat May Day High to remain in second place on 13 points. Cross Keys were 3-1 winners over DeCarteret College to move into third place.

Glenmuir blanked Foga Road 4-0 as Dave Francis, Tavis Wellington, Javane Thompson and Warren Simpson scored as they surged to 18 points in Zone M.

Denbigh followed Glenmuir as their 4-2 win over Porus ensured safe passage as well. Denbigh improved to 16 points and cannot be caught by any of the others teams in the zone.

Port Antonio High edged Fair Prospect 1-0 in Zone L to move to 15 points and can only be passed by Titchfield High in the points tables.

Happy Grove moved to within a point of second-placed Titchfield after a 4-0 win over Horace Clarke High.

Ocho Rios High’s 12 games unbeaten run in Zone I since last year came to an end as they were beaten 1-0 by Marcus Garvey High at Drax Hall.

Shemar Walters’ first-half goal was enough to slow Ocho Rios High’s rush to the second round and throws the zone wide open.

Ocho Rios still lead with 13 points, five more than Steer Town and Brown’s Town, who drew 1-1. Marcus Garvey are also on eight points.

Rusea’s High stayed on course to win Zone B after a 4-0 win over Hopewell High in Lucea, while Frome Technical and Green Island stayed locked in a tight race for second place.

Jhavoy Diaz and Daniel Reid both scored twice for Rusea’s High as they improved to 19 points, five clear of Frome, who beat Cambridge High 4-1. Cambridge’s goals came from Keith Blake, with a double, and Andre Cunningham and Kenroy Archer, who got one each.

Green Island are a point behind Frome on 14 points after their 3-1 victory at home over Knockalva Technical.

Edwin Allen are back in second place in Zone H after a 6-0 beating of Claude McKay.

Vere Technical moved to within two points of leaders Central High after beating Kemps Hill 3-1 in Zone N.

Central High lead with 16 points from six games, while Vere Technical are on 14 from seven games. Garvey Maceo High are on 11 points from five games.
